ASN dives into the week’s top high school swimming performances, recognizing the athletes making waves in the pool. Top Performers in Swimming is presented by COLA Aquatics.

City of Lafayette Aquatics goal for our swimming lessons program is to teach basic swimming skills to children from 2 1/2 years to 15 years of age.

Episode 7 Reach Award: Ben Richard — Lafayette High School

Lafayette High School senior Ben Richard is ASN’s latest Reach Award recipient, recognized for his effort in the pool and his leadership as a team captain chosen by his teammates. In Episode 7, the hosts highlighted his willingness to compete wherever his team needs him, including the 100 and 200 freestyle and relay events.

Richard’s recognition also reflects the time he spends encouraging younger swimmers. The hosts described a captain who remains excited about his teammates’ progress and helps newcomers develop. Opening Reach Award: Cole Courville — St. Thomas More

St. Thomas More swimmer Cole Courville is the first recipient of ASN’s Reach Award. A varsity boys team captain selected by his teammates for a second consecutive year, Courville was recognized for the encouragement, effort and team-first attitude he brings to the pool.

Coaches praised his positivity and his support for teammates between his own events. Courville also volunteers for difficult races when his team needs him, even when an event is not his favorite. The Reach Award celebrates the swimmer who gives that extra effort and helps the people around him succeed.

Top Performers – Cross Country

From personal-best times to race-winning performances, ASN recognizes the runners setting the pace across Acadiana high school cross country.

Episode 7 Pack Award: Mia Cestia — St. Thomas More Catholic High School

2026 fall season · Presented by City Club at River Ranch

St. Thomas More Catholic High School senior Mia Cestia earned ASN’s Pack Award after finishing first in the girls’ race at the meet discussed in Episode 7 in New Iberia. The hosts reported that STM won both team competitions, with Cestia and teammate Abby Kate Mendoza both finishing under 20 minutes despite a wet course.

The episode highlighted the two seniors’ work together through summer training and their ability to push one another in competition. The Pack Award celebrates the runner whose effort strengthens the team, recognizing both individual performance and the teammates who help make it possible. Opening Pack Award: Emily Landry — ARCA

ARCA senior Emily Landry is ASN’s first Pack Award recipient, recognized for the leadership she brings to her cross-country team. Charles visited a practice and spoke with her coach, who described Landry as an extension of the coaching staff in the way she encourages and guides the other runners.

Her focus reaches beyond her own finish. Landry helps teammates find ways to improve their times and understands how each runner’s progress contributes to the team’s performance. That commitment to bringing the group forward captures the purpose of the Pack Award.

Top Performers – Volleyball

ASN highlights the volleyball players who delivered some of the week’s biggest performances on courts throughout Acadiana. Top Performers in Volleyball is presented by Pat Magee Firm.

Episode 7 First Touch Award: Amelie Trappey — Catholic High School, New Iberia

Catholic High School of New Iberia senior outside hitter Amelie Trappey earned ASN’s First Touch Award after helping the Panthers open the volleyball season 8–0. Charles presented the recognition before Catholic’s visit to St. Thomas More in Lafayette and highlighted Trappey’s athleticism, energy and vocal leadership on the court.

Episode 7 also recapped a lively matchup in a packed STM gym. The Cougars won in straight sets after a closely contested opening set, while Catholic continued to build on a strong start to the season. ASN’s First Touch Award honors the contact that sets a team up for success—whether a serve receive, dig, block or pass. Hear the volleyball report around 38:18 in the ASN Podcast.

Opening First Touch Award: Riley Meaux — Westminster Christian

2026 season · Featured in Episode 6 of the Acadiana Sports Network Podcast.

Riley Meaux, a sophomore middle blocker at Westminster Christian in Opelousas, earned ASN’s first First Touch Award. On Episode 6, Charles highlighted her blocking against St. Thomas More and shared why her coach selected her for the recognition.

Westminster’s win over STM was a major moment for the program, and the hosts reported that the team followed it by winning all of its matches at St. Michael’s tournament in Baton Rouge. Meaux’s contribution stood out in a group that also features experienced seniors.

The First Touch Award recognizes the volleyball player whose serve receive, dig, block or pass sets teammates up for success. Meaux’s impact at the net made her a fitting first honoree in ASN’s volleyball coverage, presented by Pat Magee Firm.
